Last Wednesday, there were media reports that Houston’s Mayor and City Attorney were backing off of the subpoenas which they issued to certain pastors asking those pastors for their notes and sermons that talked about the Mayor and the recently passed pro-transgender ordinance (also known as the “bathroom bill”). However, it now appears that the same Mayor and City Attorney will not even partially rescind the issued subpoenas. This false promise reminds me of an old saying:
Like clouds and wind without rain is one who boasts of gifts never given.
Proverbs 25:14
To make things worse, city officials from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho are now forcing two ministers to perform a same-sex marriage ceremony for a couple that they do not wish to marry. Because of the ruling from the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals that overturned Idaho’s constitutional amendment that defined and defended traditional marriage, the city has specifically threatened the two ministers with jail and a fine for each day that they do not comply with the city order.
So much for this country being the home of the free and the brave! At least we have brave people like this couple who so far have withstood this horrible governmental forced servitude.
As dark as things seem, this could be a good sign for conservatives, with early voting already under way in many states, this is just the type of action that we can use to spur on our friends and neighbors who do not normally vote. Let’s use these examples of extreme governmental intrusion to our advantage.
I have one final matter. Texas has a proposed constitutional amendment on this upcoming ballot. I encourage everyone to vote for the amendment. For a real good analysis of why we should vote for this amendment, please read this article.
