On August 28, I wrote about the militarization of our local police forces. Then on September 16 I wrote about the militarization of our schools. Now it seems that some of our local police departments and schools are waking up to the idea that this “free deal” with the federal government was not such a great idea after all.
In this article, it is noted that the San Jose Police department is returning its’ MRAP and the Los Angeles Unified school system is returning their three grenade launchers,but has decided to keep their 16 military rifles and their MRAP. Crazy as it sounds, the Los Angeles Unified school system still thinks that it needs a MRAP. Still crazier, is the fact that once these agencies get their “free” equipment, it is hard to get rid of.
