There is an old saying that you will know someone by their actions.
I have found this principle to be true whether it was in my dealings with others in my personal life, in business, or, in politics. I was reminded of that recently when I read Robert Stovall’s editorial regarding the political party switch of County Court at Law Judge Carlos Key from the Republican Party to the Democrat Party. It seems that Stovall, who is the Chairman of the Bexar County Republican Party, was pressured by Key to encourage Key’s primary opponent to drop out of the primary race. When Stovall refused, Judge Key switched parties.
I say to Chairman Stovall: Good job at sticking to your convictions. A county chair is not supposed to take sides in the primaries. A county chair is to make sure that there is a fair fight. I also think that Chairman Stovall gets an extra ‘Atta boy’ for speaking out about what was a politically revealing action of a Republican candidate in his own county.
Principled vs. Unprincipled Ideals
