A Day Called Christmas

I think that sometimes as Christians we forget the importance of offering the non-secular, evangelical expression of “Merry Christmas” to someone.

Despite what anyone or any court says, any recognition of Christmas is an affirmative and definitive statement that Father God chose to send His only Son in the form of a Man so that all mankind can be redeemed and reconciled back to Father God. To me, proclaiming “Merry Christmas” is the simplest method of proclaiming the Gospel message.

With the above said, leaders, including political leaders, should not be afraid to publicly express the same sentiment. Historically, the United States is a Christian nation despite what many say. The United States first officially observed Christmas as a holiday as a result of a law passed in 1870 while Ulysses S. Grant was President. By subsequently enacted laws, the United States expanded its’ observance of Christmas in 1885 and later in 1968. I note that it was the Democrat Party who was in control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate when the 1968 bill was passed. And, it was a Texas born Democrat President, Lyndon Baines Johnson, who signed the bill into law.

Although under direct assault by a vocal minority, the United States still observes Christmas as a national holiday. That standing observance by the Federal government still means nothing less than the proud and bold proclamation that Father God sent His only Son Jesus Christ to redeem man from sin.

The United States is a Christian nation. Don’t let anyone convince you of anything less.

MERRY CHRISTMAS.

The Far Left’s Oppostion To The Second Amendment Has Gone Too Far … Again

As we all know, the Far Left often resorts to extreme measures to support their idea that all guns, especially handguns, are bad.

The Far Left may have set a new low in trying to make their point.  In a recent video message, these Far Left activists directly encourage school children to steal a (presumably loaded) firearm from their parents’ bedroom and take that same gun to school and place it on a teacher’s desk.

With barely thinking about how outlandish this attempt at a “Public Service Message” is, I can readily think of three questions I would like to ask the director and producers of this message.

1.  How many different laws did this video encourage the kids to break?

1a. Sub question – How many laws were broken when this video was made?

2.  Do feelings that “[you] don’t feel safe with a gun in [your] house” absolve you of the multiple felonies that you just committed?

3.  How much more danger are you encouraging to be created if other kids who watch the video actually follow the example of the kid in the video by taking a gun to school?

There are many more questions to be asked here.  And I sure hope that none of my tax dollars went to support this message.

Happy Thanksgiving from the Spear Family

This Thanksgiving is the 19th Thanksgiving that we have celebrated as a family.

I asked my son to help me decide which of the 19 Thanksgiving holidays which was his favorite. His conclusion was that his two favorite holidays were the ones that we, as a family, went somewhere. On those two particular holidays, we broke our routine. We got away from media, away from our normal hideaways in our own home, and away from the normal cares of the world. It seems to me that when we separate ourselves from the normal routine, we can better reflect on our blessings.

Today, even though we are celebrating Thanksgiving at home, I reflect on the Creator’s blessings. I am most thankful for the saving grace that He has extended to me and my family. I am also thankful for the blessings of family that the Lord has blessed me with.

Feminisim and Princess Leia

We all remember that a so-called feminist took to the streets of NYC and recorded the misogynist treatment that she received.

Thanks to Princess Leia and her friends, we have a view of how things are from her perceptive.

Don’t get over confident with a GOP sweep of Texas in 2014

Despite General Abbott having an opportunity to embarrassingly whip a Democrat’s butt in the General Election, we cannot become complacent about Texas’ future as a Red State.  Battleground Texas is serious about their goals of turning Texas blue.  There has been no secret to Battleground Texas’ strategy.  It is all about the demographics folks.  And Battleground Texas is patiently waiting for their opportunity.

Go Vote!  Let’s win this election decisively for the GOP.  However, our goal to keep Texas Red requires us to not stop fighting for GOP values for even one day.  After our historic wins on November 5, let us all remain committed to keep fighting the next day, the next day and the next day and all of the way through November 1, 2016!

Prisoners Eat Better Than Our Kids in School

Here is a recent article reporting just one outcome of Michelle Obama’s school lunch program.  If the prisoners in America’s judicial system were fed this slop, the prisoners would not only sue the taxpayers, but they would also easily win.

Please take time to read the article about just how bad the lunches are.

2ND UPDATE: Houston – Intimidation Tactics Against Churches

Last Wednesday, there were media reports that Houston’s Mayor and City Attorney were backing off of the subpoenas which they issued to certain pastors asking those pastors for their notes and sermons that talked about the Mayor and the recently passed pro-transgender ordinance (also known as the “bathroom bill”). However, it now appears that the same Mayor and City Attorney will not even partially rescind the issued subpoenas. This false promise reminds me of an old saying:

Like clouds and wind without rain is one who boasts of gifts never given.
Proverbs 25:14

To make things worse, city officials from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho are now forcing two ministers to perform a same-sex marriage ceremony for a couple that they do not wish to marry. Because of the ruling from the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals that overturned Idaho’s constitutional amendment that defined and defended traditional marriage, the city has specifically threatened the two ministers with jail and a fine for each day that they do not comply with the city order.

So much for this country being the home of the free and the brave! At least we have brave people like this couple who so far have withstood this horrible governmental forced servitude.

As dark as things seem, this could be a good sign for conservatives, with early voting already under way in many states, this is just the type of action that we can use to spur on our friends and neighbors who do not normally vote. Let’s use these examples of extreme governmental intrusion to our advantage.

I have one final matter. Texas has a proposed constitutional amendment on this upcoming ballot. I encourage everyone to vote for the amendment. For a real good analysis of why we should vote for this amendment, please read this article.

UPDATED: Houston – Intimidation Tactics Against Churches

Not long after my last post went out to some of you on Wednesday, the Mayor of Houston (who happens to be homosexual) backed down on the subpoenas that she issued to five pastors for “all speeches, presentations, or sermons” on a variety of topics, including the mayor, and “gender identity.”

Read more here.

Despite backing off of the issued subpoenas, the Houston Mayor and City Attorney still fail to admit the validity of our position which is that such tactics are a direct intimidation of our religious rights under the First Amendment.  Such tactics also happens to be an infringement of our free speech rights under the first Amendment.

Please read the article because the fight is still not over.  The original lawsuit filed by conservatives continues.  The Mayor and City Attorney issued the subpoenas in defense of their decision to deny a ballot referendum that would rescind an earlier city council passed ordinance that allowed (among other things) transgender persons to use whichever bathroom that they wanted to.  That referendum was denied placement on the ballot by the Mayor and City Attorney.

Keep praying and standing your ground!

City of Houston – Intimidation Tactics Against Churches

If you have not already heard, the city of Houston has issued a court subpoena to Houston’s churches requiring those churches to turn over any sermons regarding homosexuality, gender identity or the mayor herself.  I see this clearly as an intimidation tactic to keep Christians, Jews, Muslims and other faiths from publicly criticizing the practice of homosexuality or other “alternative life styles.”

The article about this outrageous government conduct can be found by clicking here:

But, do we expect the American Civil Liberties Union to intercede?

Nah, but we can continue to pray for our sister churches and our brothers and sisters in Christ in that area.  We can also pray for the mayor herself.  And when there is a legal action brought against our sister churches, we can support them in many ways.

As a reminder, this is not the first time, we have seen such action.  A year ago, the city of San Antonio passed a “non-discrimination ordinance” which on its’ face prohibits discrimination against the lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender persons.  However, in reality, the measure that was passed would prohibit business owners from refusing to perform services based on religious grounds.  For example, it is now illegal in San Antonio for a small business owner from refusing to make a wedding cake for a same sex couple.  See an article on that law by clicking here:
